Wondering what to pack for a caravan holiday this summer?
It’s important to travel light when caravanning, as there is limited room inside your home from home, and a weight limit to consider. Whilst there are plenty of home comforts that you might want to bring with you, it is a good idea to start with the essential spares first, and then move onto the rest of your packing, which is why we’ve put together this caravan holiday checklist for adventurers just like you.

Must-haves
First up - the absolute necessities. Without these, your summer adventures simply can’t go ahead, and they should be right at the top of your checklist of what to pack for a caravan holiday this July.
Water containers
To keep the water running at the turn of a tap, you will need to pack your Aquaroll or water container, as well as the pump and connector.
These portable containers must be fully drained whilst travelling, and are only filled up once you arrive at the site - and, since what flows in must flow back out, a lightweight waste water carrier is also an absolute must-have to safely dispose of all non-toilet water at the end of your trip.
Mains lead
Just as you are able to use the campsite’s water supply, you may also want to hook up to the site’s electricity mains in order to power your caravan appliances.
To tap into this supply safely, you will need a site-to-caravan hook up lead. Go for a 25 metre option to maintain the required distance between your caravan and the site’s outlet, and if your current cable appears worn or damaged in any way then replace it as a matter of urgency before you set off.
Gas bottle and regulator
Whilst you certainly won’t need to power your caravan’s heater during your summer holidays, you will still need a steady supply of butane gas in order to use your hob, oven, and maybe even the fridge, depending upon the model of caravan that you have.
Stay prepared when heading off-grid with a portable gas cylinder and a clip-on regulator (as well as a spare) to regulate the pressure at the connection point throughout your entire trip.

These are the usual accessories that you likely think of when considering what to pack for a caravan holiday, as well as a few overlooked ones.
Pack them all to stay fully prepared this summer.
Awning spares
You will likely be using your awning every day of your summer travels, erecting it as soon as you arrive and not taking it down until you finally pack up and leave.
A full-sized awning offers plenty of extra space and much-needed shade, so make sure you can use yours properly by stocking up on plenty of:
- Pegs
- Clamps
- Clips
- Suckers
And, of course, a mallet for a hassle-free set-up.
Toilet chemicals
Stock up on the right chemicals for your onboard toilet before you set off, including:
- Blue chemicals: To break down waste and paper, and to neutralise odours within the holding tank.
- Pink chemicals: To keep the flush tank, holding tank, and the water in both, clean.
And don’t forget to pack toilet paper that is suitable for these onboard water systems. The usual paper that you can buy in the supermarket won’t dissolve properly, and you don’t want to find yourself having to unclog the system on a hot summer's day!
Bulbs
Even with later sunsets and bright, hot days, you don’t want to be left without a reliable source of light whilst out on the road.
You never know when a bulb might go… or how far away from the nearest shop you might be. To avoid the hassle that comes with a burst bulb, check all of your lights beforehand, and stock up on a spare 12 volt fluorescent tube, a downlighter, and an LED spotlight.
Final touches
It’s almost time to set off!
Here are a few home comforts to finish off your packing, and don’t forget lots of clothes, suncream, and beach towels for sunny days spent at the seaside.
Steps
Caravanning holidays are one of the most popular ways to spend time as an entire family, and if you’re setting off with one or two little ones, then make it easier for them to come and go as they please with a sturdy plastic step up to the caravan door.
You might even find one helpful yourself, as it offers that extra bit of height and stability that makes all the difference when loading your caravan up for a long journey.
Window stays
On those days where a cool, refreshing breeze is needed, the window stays will feel like the most important fixtures in your entire caravan.
They are easily replaced, but only if you have the right replacement with you, and it is well worth stocking up on one or two spares as we enter yet another month of record-breaking heat.
Kettle
And finally, a kettle!
Store one inside your kitchen cupboard before you lock the caravan door, ready to make your first brew of the summer holidays… once you’ve unhitched, connected to the mains, and filled the Aquaroll!
