Summer is just around the corner, and we’re hoping it’s a hot one! May broke temperature records all across the country, and with just a few weeks left until the school holidays, now is the time to stock up on caravan accessories for a cool and relaxed summer.
Stay prepared for whatever the weather brings with our top caravan parts to invest in ahead of time.
An air conditioning unit
Caravans can warm up very quickly on bright, sunny days, and we recommend investing in a caravan air conditioner - especially if you’re thinking of hopping on a ferry or taking the Tunnel to even warmer destinations.
We stock both the SPA-3000 and SPA-5000 Mestic Split Unit Air Conditioners to keep the air flowing at the touch of a button. As well as a handy digital display that allows you to instantly cool, ventilate and even dehumidify your caravan between 16 °C to 30 °C, both options also come with:
- A split unit design and infinitely adjustable brackets for easy installation.
- 3 speeds to choose from, as well as Night Mode, which automatically switches to the lowest, quietest speed.
- And a transport bracket.

A bike rack
Caravanning is already a great way to explore new places, and bringing your bikes with you makes it even better. Now you can experience the great outdoors without needing to walk long distances or travel in the car on a hot day - provided that you have a bike rack to safely transport them.
When choosing a caravan bike rack, you don’t need to pick one made by the same brand as your caravan. We stock the Thule Sport G2 rack which is suitable for all pre-installed fixation points (except for Hymer), and offers:
- A load capacity of up to 50kg
- A lockable platform to prevent movement in transit
- Easy-to-adjust rails for a secure fit
This option is suitable for 2 bikes with a combined weight of 50kg, so take care to never exceed these limits, and get in touch with us if you have any questions when purchasing or installing the rack.
A flynet
Any ventilation is a blessing in the summer when the high temperatures can ruin even the most well-planned caravanning holiday. But if you’ve retreated back to your vehicle for some respite from the heat, then the last thing you want to have to deal with is swarms of flies buzzing around the interior.
Before you throw open the windows this summer, consider investing in a flynet or flyscreen to keep the critters out and the fresh air coming in. With a well-fitted barrier against insects, you can enjoy a gentle breeze without having to shoo bugs back outside, or shut out the sunlight, as their fine mesh construction keeps the light streaming in on sunny days.
All of our flynet systems come with an integrated blind and are suitable for windows of all different sizes, including roof vents, so let the light in with these handy caravan accessories for summer.
Awning spares
Your awning is an extension of your caravan, and a great way to maximise the amount of space available to you whilst on the road. Far more than simply being somewhere to store your sandals, it is a space to eat, play, and relax in without the hot, glaring sun driving you back inside. So, make sure that you have everything you need to set it up properly.
Erecting an awning requires the following fixtures:
- Clamps
- Clips
- Studs
- Suckers
- Bracket
- Pegs
And more, most of which are very small and easy to lose. If you find that you are missing a few during your pre-trip checks, then stock up with our full Awning Spares collection, and spray it with a re-proofer coating to help it stay dry during any unexpected showers.
Chemical supplies
It’s important to travel light when caravanning in the summer, but there are a few essentials that simply must be kept onboard. Top of the list: toilet cleaning supplies.
The toilet system in your caravan isn’t the same as the one in your bathroom, and the supplies needed to clean it are a little different to those used at home too. In this heat, you don’t want to be caught without the right cleaning products to maintain your onboard toilet, so you’ll need to stock up on:
● Blue chemicals: To break down waste and neutralise odours.
● Pink chemicals: To keep the water in the flush tank fresh, and to flush out the entire system.
● Dissolving toilet paper: To prevent any buildup in the waste tank.
Whilst it’s tempting to take all the cleaning products you could possibly need with you on the road, remember that most supplies such as black streak remover and waste tank cleaner can wait until you get home - although there’s no reason why you can’t stock up on them now ahead of time.
