How to choose the right motorhome windows for your vehicle

Motorhome windows

Motorhome windows are built to last, but the wear and tear of being on the road is enough to damage even the most well-made windows. Whilst a few scuffs aren’t anything to worry about, if you have noticed any cracks or water trapped within the panes of your double-glazed panels, then it’s unfortunately time to look for replacement windows.

As the UK’s largest supplier of genuine caravan windows to the public, and Polyplastic’s only after-sales partner in the UK, we are the retailer to choose when looking for these replacements. So, check the condition of your windows before planning your first trip of 2025 and follow our guide to choosing the right motorhome windows for your vehicle.

Which motorhome windows need replacing?

First things first - make sure you note down the exact location of the windows that need replacing on your vehicle before browsing our range. The windows might all look the same whilst they are installed, but side windows, front windows and rooflights all have different dimensions and shapes that cannot be installed into a different opening, so check that you have the right type of window before placing your order.

As a general rule, if the damaged window is inside the drivers’ cab area then it will need to be replaced with a single-glazed window made from toughened glass for visibility and safety. If the window is behind this area, including in the side, door or roof, then you will need to source a double glazed acrylic window.

Which brand do you need?

Next, you’ll need to identify which make and model of windows you need, as well as the materials they will need to be made of. We stock a range of acrylic and polycarbonate windows that are fitted into a wide range of motorhomes, but you should always check that the windows you choose are compatible with your motorhome before starting the installation.

Installing a replacement that has not been manufactured for the make and model of your motorhome is unlikely to give you the tight weatherproof seal that your vehicle needs, so get in touch with us if you have any questions when choosing a replacement motorhome window.

What size windows do you need?

You’ll need to accurately measure the windows that you want to replace to check that the new ones will fit, and even if your old windows are damaged beyond repair, they can still be useful when completing this task! These windows should have the manufacturer's trademark stamped on them, which will help you to check the dimensions needed for a replacement window. We’ve also put together a helpful guide on how to measure your windows when ordering replacements.

If you’re not sure how to find these details, or if you would like to double check that you’re ordering the right window size, it’s always best to get in touch with us before placing your order.

Are the windows fixed or in a frame?

Motorhome windows can either be fixed, meaning that they are installed directly into the vehicle, or have a frame, which means they are installed with hinges and stays that allow them to open and close.

Whilst some fixed windows can be opened and closed as well, most of them are non-opening and are best installed as front windows where ventilation is not their primary role. Framed windows, on the other hand, are perfect for the living areas of a motorhome as they can be installed with insect screens and adjustable stays to provide good ventilation.

The windows in our range are available with or without an external frame, so click here to find out more about the options and styles available to you.

What extras are needed?

Finally, before you install your new windows, you’ll need to make sure that you have all the catches, stays, locks, and seals needed to keep the new pane securely attached.

You can transfer the fixtures over from the old window, provided that they are still in good working order and not damaged. However, if you require any new fixtures, we stock the following spares alongside our replacement windows:

Window seals: Also known as rubbers or gaskets, these fixtures are designed to create a tight seal between the window and the frame to prevent any leaks or ventilation issues.

Window catches: These handles are fitted with a push-button lock for added security and can only be opened from inside the vehicle, including the Polyplastic Polylock that is ideal for Polyplastic window owners looking to upgrade the security of their windows.

Window stays: These extendable levers automatically lock into position and keep windows open the correct amount.
