Assessing the damage
There are a range of reasons why you might need to replace your motorhome windows. Maybe they’ve become cracked in storage, scratched by low branches, or damaged by the wrong cleaning solution. Acrylic windows in particular are susceptible to cracking and scratching if they sustain a hard edge impact, but whatever the reason, once you’ve discovered the damage you’ll need to quickly choose the right replacement before you set out on your next journey.
The first step in this process is quite straightforward. All you have to do is decide whether you need a side, front, door, or rooflight window, and then you can move on to measuring it and picking the right replacement.
Measuring motorhome windows
Don’t throw your broken windows out just yet - they will be very helpful when the time comes to measure the windows and choose the right size replacements.
Most genuine windows will have an identifying part number stamped onto the corner or on a sticker on the frame. In some cases these stamps will include the make, size, and model of the window, but if you cannot find this information then you will need to measure the window yourself.
Start off by measuring the aperture (cutout) size of the window. These measurements are taken from the inside of the vehicle and involve measuring the height and width from one window rubber to the other before heading outside to take the actual window measurements.
The actual measurements take into account the width of the frame, as well as the maximum size of the pane. Simply measure from one far side of the window to the other, and again from the top of the hinge rail to the bottom, and you can then get started on searching for replacements.
Choosing a replacement window
Double-glazed acrylic windows are formed from two acrylic panels that are bonded together to form a double-glazed pane. They are available with or without an external frame and are suitable for installation in the side, door, and roof of a motorhome.
As we’ve mentioned, these windows are strong but will crack if they receive a hard impact. Cracks to acrylic windows cannot be repaired, so if you notice any then it is important that you source a replacement as soon as possible.
If you need a replacement door window, then you can choose from our double-glazed acrylic windows or habitation door windows which are suitable replacements for the majority of door windows in older models. All of these options are durable, reliable, and compatible with a range of motorhomes, but if you need some help choosing the right one then contact us with your requirements and measurements and we will be happy to help.
